On 24 March, 2020, La Ciotat Shipyards appointed a partnership comprising Egis Eau<\/a>, a leading provider of consultancy and engineering services in the areas of water, energy and the environment, and Galat\u00e9a,<\/a>a specialist in monitoring and analysing marine environments, to manage all aspects of environmental monitoring and mitigation with respect to the construction of the yards\u2019 future megayacht platform.<\/p>\n

The main objectives specified by the contracting authority are to preserve the marine environment and to ensure that the quality of the environment and its many and various natural habitats within the adjacent National Park (Parc National des Calanques) are respected and preserved.<\/p>\n

Selected for its proven expertise in the management of large-scale maritime projects, Egis will support LCS for the next 28 months, overseeing the implementation of the various measures<\/a> to mitigate potential impacts as specified in\u00a0the environmental authorization delivered by the Prefet on March 6, 2020.<\/p>\n

The programme will involve monitoring the environment both in the water and on the surrounding land. Activities will include the analysis of:
\n\u2013 the water quality during the works
\n\u2013 underwater noise and its relationship with the frequency of visual sightings of cetacean species
\n\u2013 The ongoing health of the Posedonia meadow
\n\u2013 General acoustic monitoring for ambient noise levels
\n\u2013 Air quality.<\/p>\n

To support it in this project Egis sought to bring on board a team of specialist Mediterranean marine environment experts and has chosen to appoint\u00a0 Galat\u00e9a, an engineering consultancy specialising in the study of aquatic environments and located in La Ciotat.<\/p>\n

This collaboration fulfils the commitment made by LCS when they joined the Water Revolution Fourndation;<\/a> \u201dIts purpose is to guarantee strict environmental compliance through all phases of the project,\u201d states Sandra Servi\u00e8re, head of operations at LCS and responsible for managing the yards\u2019 ecological footprint. \u201dRegular scheduled meetings will be held with Egis to ensure that our goals are achieved\u00a0 and the companies that we are working with on the future megayacht platform will receive all necessary training.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n
